MORRISON – An Illinois man found guilty in May of killing four people in northwest Illinois is asking for a new trial.

According to Sauk Valley Media, Nicholas Sheley filed a request for a new trial in late June.

Sheley attorney Jeremy Karlin argues the notoriety surrounding Sheley's case made it impossible for him to get a fair trial.

Sheley was convicted in May of killing 29-year-old Brock Branson; 20-year-old Kilynna Blake; her son, 2-year-old Dayan; and 25-year-old Kenneth Ulve in Rock Falls in Whiteside County in June 2008.

Sheley was tried in Rock Island after Karlin argued he couldn't get a fair trial in Whiteside County.

Sheley has also been convicted of killing two Illinois men in 2008 and is charged in the deaths of an Arkansas couple in Missouri.
