PEORIA – The murder trial of a former Baptist missionary will be the first trial in Peoria County to allow cameras in the court.
Nathan Leuthold’s trial begins Monday. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the 2013 death of his wife, 39-year-old Denise Leuthold.
The Peoria Journal Star reported broadcast media will share a single camera for video coverage.
There will also be a single photographer for still shots. The trial is expected to last about a week.
The Illinois Supreme Court launched the cameras-in-court initiative several years ago. Cameras have already been allowed at several murder trials elsewhere around the state.
Prosecutors have accused Leuthol of shooting his wife to death. They allege he staged a break-in at the couple’s home to try and deflect suspicion.
