CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner is getting a boost from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Christie is expected to appear at a July 25 downtown Chicago fundraiser with Rauner and his lieutenant governor running mate, Evelyn Sanguinetti. That's according to Rauner campaign emails sent to supporters on Tuesday. VIP tickets including photos are $1,500 each. Reception tickets for individuals are $500.

Rauner is trying to unseat Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn in what's expected to be one of the most expensive and competitive governor's races nationwide. Each candidate has raised millions with big help from national party organizations.

White House officials have said President Barack Obama will show strong support for Quinn, who's seeking a second full term. Obama appeared with Quinn during a May visit to Chicago.
