Beaches closed due to elevated bacteria levels

Published: Friday, July 18, 2014 11:29 a.m. CST

Two McHenry County beaches have been closed due to elevated bacteria levels, according the McHenry County Department of Health.

While Wonder Center Beach, 4100 E. Lakeshore Dr., Wonder Lake, is on advisory, the following two beaches are closed:

• Wonder Woods 4, 5200 Wonder Woods Dr., Wonder Lake

• Sunrise Ridge, 3800 W. Lakeshore Dr., Wonder Lake

The McHenry County Department of Health on Thursday conducted beach water samplings at 37 licensed beaches — a practice done every two weeks to check for E. coli.

When elevated bacteria levels are found, additional and more frequent sampling is done, the release states.

The beaches will be resampled Friday.

Results and locations are readily available at the McHenry County Department of Health webpage, www.mcdh.info, or by calling (815) 334-4585.
