Coroner: 2 men drowned in Naperville quarry crash

Published: Tuesday, July 22, 2014 10:54 p.m. CDT

WHEATON – The DuPage County coroner says drowning is the preliminary cause of death for two men killed when a car plunged into a water-filled quarry.

The Naperville Sun reported Deputy DuPage County Coronor Charlie Bastych announced the ruling on Monday afternoon. The men, 21-year-old Sajaad Syed of Naperville and 21-year-old Mihirtej Boddupalli of Lisle, died Saturday.

A Geneva man is charged aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide in the case. Police said his vehicle went into the quarry after missing a curve. Divers later discovered the victims’ bodies still in the vehicle.

Bastych said the definitive cause of the death is pending toxicological results
