McHENRY – To promote the planting of trees, the city of McHenry is offering to split the cost with residents.

The cost-sharing program is open to single-family residences and costs $150 per tree, Park Planning and Forestry Superintendent Tom Schmidt said.

The species available to be planted include Turkish hazelnut, honey locust, columnar Norway maple, redmond linden and triumph elm, according to a news release. A limited number of trees are available.

They will be planted in the fall in public right-of-ways.

Interested residents can contact the city's forestry division for application information and requirements by calling 815-363-2160. The deadline to apply is July 31.
