Teen's body found in northern Illinois lake

THIRD LAKE, Ill. (AP) — Police say the body of a northern Illinois teenager has been found in Third Lake in Lake County.

Lake County sheriff's police and fire officials have identified the victim as 16-year-old Matt Reed, an incoming junior at Grayslake Central High School. Authorities say Reed was on a pontoon boat Monday afternoon when he and others decided to go swimming.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Chief John Christian says Reed struggled in the water and never resurfaced.

Christian says someone on the boat called 911 and authorities responded with divers and a sonar team. He says Reed's body was found in about 60 feet of water, 200 feet from shore.

The village of Third Lake is about 40 miles north of downtown Chicago.
