Alleged cocaine dealers nabbed in Harvard, Walworth County

WOODSTOCK – Two alleged cocaine dealers were nabbed in a multi-jurisdiction drug bust that crossed the Wisconsin border and netted a couple hundred grams of cocaine.

Authorities in Walworth County, Wisconsin, on Tuesday stopped 25-year-old Angel Cruz. Sheriff's deputies there said 3 ounces of cocaine were found in his vehicle.

That same day, McHenry County sheriff's deputies obtained a search warrant for the home of Froilan Avila-Romo at 731 W. Burbank St. in Harvard, where they uncovered 236.5 grams of cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs was $11,575.

Police also seized a 2005 Dodge Charger and $2,400 cash.

Authorities believe the men were transporting cocaine from Harvard into Walworth County. Undercover officers purchased cocaine from the men over a monthlong period, Walworth County Sgt. Jeff Patek said.

Both men were charged with four counts each of unlawful delivery and possession of a controlled substance. The most serious charge against them carries a possible prison sentence of up to 30 years.

Cruz is being held in Walworth County Jail on $150,000 bond. Avila-Romo remains in McHenry County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. His next court date is Friday.

Sheriff's deputies in McHenry and Walworth counties worked with the Harvard Police Department and DEA offices in Rockford and Milwaukee.
