CRYSTAL LAKE – A Florida man who was arrested in McHenry County this month has committed suicide after posting $200,000 for his temporary release from custody.
Bruce D. Lisle, 73, of Alachua, Florida, was arrested July 4 in McHenry County on an outstanding warrant from Indian River County in Florida where he was wanted for capital sexual battery.
Lisle, who was visiting family in the area, had his bond set at $2 million but was released when he was able to post the necessary $200,000 on the condition he turn himself in to authorities in Florida within seven days.
Dave Johnston, assistant state's attorney for McHenry County, asked the judge to hold Lisle without bond while the extradition process played out because he did not believe Lisle would turn himself in.
Michael Combs, chief of the criminal division for the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office, said he was informed of Lisle's death by the FBI on Friday.
"We objected to his release based on the seriousness of the charges and the fact he had no bond in Florida," Combs said. "He should be returned to Florida to face these charges. He should not have been given the opportunity to post bond."
Lisle was charged with six counts of capital sexual assault, each carrying a possible life sentence.
