To the Editor:
I have only lived in McHenry County since 1981, so I’m not really an old-timer, but I have seen my share of taxpayer-funded boondoggles.
The Randall Road expansion project is the next one we will be on the hook for if there isn’t a
public outcry. I am not willing to spend $135 million for 3.5 miles of road ($38 million per mile). It will cost every family in the county $1,200. Is that worth the few minutes you will shave off your commute?
These figures don’t even take into account the sales tax revenues that will be lost with businesses being bulldozed and the other businesses that will suffer because of access difficulty.
Residents rose in opposition to the Fleming Road project and McDOT listened. It is time for us to do the same to this project. There must be a better solution.
