Palatine man dies after fight outside suburban bar

PALATINE – A suburban Chicago man has died more than a week after striking his head on the sidewalk during a fight outside a bar.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said 26-year-old Ryan Flannigan of Palatine died Monday afternoon at an area hospital.

The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reported Flannigan was outside a Palatine bar the night of July 18 when witnesses said someone punched him in the side of the face. Flannigan fell back and struck his head. When police arrived he was unconscious.

Police arrested 35-year-old Michael G. Platt of Palatine and charged him with felony aggravated battery and released from custody after posting bail. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney and he has an unlisted phone number.
