Power plant questions

Published: Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 9:19 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I attended the Oakwood Hills power plant informational open house on Tuesday, July 22. It was very disappointing, as many of the questions asked did not have answers.

I was told that the effects of the power plant’s cooling tower vapor plume, such as height, distance traveled and winter road icing, have not been studied yet.

Another question I had was on how much power plant noise would raise the noise levels in the surrounding area. The answer I received was that he didn’t know.

I asked many of the experts if any environmental impact studies have been done on surface water and aquifer effects due to the water usage of the power plant. There are no studies on this.

This power plant will affect not only Oakwood Hills, but also all surrounding communities. We deserve answers to these and other important questions.
