Lake in the Hills motorist arrested after Crystal Lake crash with bicyclist

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Lake in the Hills man was arrested for driving with a suspended license after a he was involved in a crash with a bicyclist in Crystal Lake.

Emergency crews responded to an accident report at 5 p.m. Wednesday on Miller Road at Heaven’s Gate, the southern border of Crystal Lake, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Bicyclist Kevin R. Young, 28, last known address in Arlington Heights, was immediately taken by an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Rescue ambulance to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. His injuries were serious but not believed to be life-threatening, according to the release.

The release states it was determined Young had been traveling eastbound on a bike on Miller Road at Heaven’s Gate. Jacob Regul, 30, of Lake in the Hills, was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet Trailblazer when he attempted to turn left onto Heaven’s Gate. The two collided in the intersection, the release says.

Regul was not injured in the crash, but was arrested by Crystal Lake police for driving with a suspended license, a Class A misdemeanor, and also was cited for failure to yield when turning left, a petty offense.

Miller Road was closed to all vehicular traffic from the time of the crash until roughly 7:45 p.m., according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
