Open house to look at Powers-Walker House during WWII

RINGWOOD – A trip back to World War II will greet visitors to the restored Greek revival house in Glacial Park.

The McHenry County Conservation District will host an open house at the house, which dates back to 1854, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17.

Historical re-enactors will be on hand to give tours of the Powers-Walker House, located at 6201 Harts Road in Ringwood, and demonstrate activities from the time the house was built.

Several presentations will also focus on the history of the house and the Schaefer and Steinmetz family that lived there during World War II. Copies of old family photos will be featured at about 2 p.m.

The program is free, and registration is not required.
