The Centegra Health System and the McHenry County Department of Health’s Women, Infants and Children program have scheduled events for World Breastfeeding Week, according to a news release.

Mothers and babies are invited to attend the Big Latch On and Mommy Mingle Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the classrooms at Centegra Hospital – McHenry, at 4201 Medical Center Drive, according to a news release.

Big Latch On is an event that encourages breastfeeding women to come together to latch on their children at the same time, the news release said. The Mommy Mingle Fair will include a raffle, refreshments, informational booths and opportunities to learn about and purchase products that support breastfeeding.

“We welcome all mothers and expectant women to our event to learn about breastfeeding support in our community,” said Christi Braun, a nurse and lactation consultant with Centegra.

A free viewing of “The Milky Way” by director John Fitzgerald is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in conference rooms A and B at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, at 3701 Doty Road.

“The Milky Way” is a documentary about breastfeeding in the United States. The film encourages women to learn about breastfeeding and to trust that their bodies are able to provide all the nutrition their children need.
