Harvard District 50 taking applications for school board

Published: Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 11:43 a.m. CDT

HARVARD – District 50 community members interested in filling either of two vacant school board seats should submit their letters of interest by the end of the week.

The two spots opened up last month when Genny Miller and Steve Garrels submitted letters of resignation.

Interested applicants should write an explanation of why they would be an asset to the District 50 school board, including a statement that they meet the requirements for the position.

A school board member must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of District 50 for at least a year. The board cannot accept applicants from Chemung Township at this time because it has filled its quota for board members from the area.

School board members can't be employed by District 50.

Letters are due by 5 p.m. Friday. The board will conduct interviews prior to the Wednesday, Aug. 20 school board meeting.
