McHENRY – No injuries were reported Monday after a structure fire at an abandoned building, according to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

Calls started coming in at 10:47 a.m. of a structure fire at 5406 Hillside Drive in McHenry, Battalion Chief Mike Majercik said. Upon arrival, responders found a building fully involved with flames. Majercik said the fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

A McHenry Township Fire Protection District news release said the structure had been vacant for several years.

The fire is under investigation by the district and the McHenry County sheriff's office. Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of the fire was incendiary and suspicious in nature, the news release said. A witness reported seeing a juvenile male leaving the scene on a bicycle just before the fire starting.

There was no power or gas going into the building.
