Roberts looking to continue career after release from Twins

The Minnesota Twins released Single-A Advanced Fort Myers left fielder Nate Roberts, a 2007 Richmond-Burton graduate, on Sunday, but Roberts is looking to continue his career as a free agent, according to his father, Rob.

Roberts, the 2010 fifth-round pick hit .305 for his career.

He played in just one game last season and was batting .281 in 18 games this season when the decision was made to part ways. Roberts tore the cartilage in his left knee in the first game of last season, requiring season-ending surgery.

Roberts is third all-time in career high school batting average, hitting .554 from 2004-05 to 2006-07.

In January 2013, Roberts injured his left knee during an offseason workout, requiring a minor surgery to repair a meniscus injury.

NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the season Roberts graduated from high school and also incorrectly stated he had a micro fracture knee injury.
