To the Editor:
Our transit boards need real reform.
At least one state representative, Jack Franks, understands that. He demanded that the good old boys Al Jordan and Jack Schaffer not be reappointed to the transit board. The County Board reluctantly obliged and did not reappoint the double-dipping career politicians.
Franks also changed the law to take away full-time medical and pension benefits from those that serve on these very part-time commissions. Most recently, he passed another law barring double-dipping on the transit boards.
It takes real courage to take on entrenched powerful political insiders. Franks does so knowing he is angering the good old boys and knows they will attack him.
Rep. Franks does what is right. More politicians should do that. Our state and country would be in much better shape.
