The Syfy channel hit movie "Sharknado 2: The Second One" wil hit the big screen for a one-night-only showing at Regal Showplace 16 in Crystal Lake.

The theater at 5000 Northwest Hwy. is one of various theaters throughout Illinois to feature an 8 p.m. Aug. 21 showing of the film starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. Along with the movie, 10 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage, including a look into the special effects, bloopers and more, will be shown.

The first "Sharknado," a made-for-television film, premiered on the Syfy channel in 2013, and unexpectedly became a cult hit, quickly growing in popularity through repeated airings. "Sharknado 2" premiered July 30 on the Syfy channel, depicting the story of a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished iconic sites.

The nationwide showing will be presented in partnership with Fathom Events, which has tickets available at its website, www.fathomevents.com.
