CRYSTAL LAKE – Residents will have an opportunity to help an 18-month-old girl fight against cancer.

From 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Nick's Pizza & Pub, 856 Pyott Road, in Crystal Lake, people can make donations and enter raffles to help raise money for chemotherapy treatment for Lilly Herrera. Herrera was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomysarcoma in May when a tumor was discovered in her abdomen.

Surgeons cannot operate on the tumor because of its size, taking up roughly 90 percent of her abdominal cavity. Herrera is going through chemotherapy treatments to reduce the size of the tumor in hopes of a possible surgery.

Kristy Morici, a family friend of the Herreras and event organizer, said the treatments are working but have caused the 18-month-old to get sick after treatment.

"The tumor is shrinking but it is not operatable yet," Morici said. "But Lilly is a fighter and a really strong little girl."

Raffle prizes will include gift certificates to local businesses, a signed poster from rock band Theory of a Deadman, a dish washer and even a chinchilla raised by Morici. Other prizes such as handbags and gift bags will be raffled.

Morici said people do not need to be present to win and will be contacted if their number is drawn.

For those who cannot make it, information on how to donate is located at a Facebook page titled Praying for Lilly to Sock Out Cancer. An online fundraiser that has collected $4,515 can be accessed at  www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/8yn4/lillyspediatrictreatment.
