Johnsburg subdivision may get backup SSA

JOHNSBURG – The village of Johnsburg plans on establishing a backup system to make sure subdivision residents pay for maintenance of common areas.

The Johnsburg Village Board proposed the establishment of special service areas – a taxing district that is designed to cover specific improvements or costs in that area – for the Remington Grove subdivision.

The SSAs serve as a way for the village to cover the cost of maintaining common areas in case the homeowners association fails to do so, Village Administrator Claudett Peters said.

The village requires these backup SSAs for all new developments.

“It has been our general experience that the homeowners associations typically take care of the maintenance, and the village does not have levy a tax to cover the cost of maintenance,” she said.

A hearing on the proposed SSAs has tentatively been set for the Sept. 2 Johnsburg Village Board meeting.

The Village Board’s June approval of the homeowners association’s amended covenants is contingent upon the establishment of the SSA.

Remington Grove is west of Richmond Road and south of Johnsburg Road.
