BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook police are searching for a man who reportedly shot a woman during an armed robbery about noon Monday at the Bolingbrook First Midwest Bank.

Police are looking for a black man in his early 20s, about 6-foot, 190 pounds, and wearing jeans, a black hoodie, a red hat and a black bandana with white markings. He was last seen wearing a mask leaving on foot in an unknown direction from the bank, 450 N. Bolingbrook Drive.

The woman, a bank employee, was shot in the arm and transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, said Bolingbrook Lt. Mike Rompa. Her injuries were not believed to be serious, according to Joan Hyde, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Chicago office. The FBI is handling the investigation.

A man on the scene named Kyle, who declined to provide his last name, told Shaw Media he was in the bank's drive-thru when the robbery occurred. He said that, through the drive-thru window, he saw a girl duck down. He went inside to see if everyone was OK.

"That probably was not the smartest idea," he said, adding that by then the suspect had fled.

Hyde said a handgun was used in the robbery and the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, she added.

The robbery is the Chicago area's 99th bank robbery so far this year, Hyde said.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call the FBI's Chicago office at 312-421-6700.
