McHENRY – A McHenry church is holding a vigil Thursday evening in response to the shooting of a Missouri teenager by police.

The The Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road, McHenry, plans on joining a national moment of silence for 18-year-old Michael Brown who was fatally shot by a police officer.

The shooting has resulted in days of protests in the St. Louis suburb.

“It’s important to let the world know we stand in solidarity not only with the community in Missouri, but black communities across the country who feel besieged by aggressive and discriminatory police action,” the Rev. Sean Parker Dennison said in a news release.

A vigil is also being held at Daley Center Plaza in Chicago.

The vigil will start at 6 p.m. with a moment of silence at 6:20 p.m.
