Can’t ‘deal’ dogs

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

I was encouraged to see that state Sen. Pam Althoff supported a recent measure, signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn, to increase the fines for violations of the Animal Welfare Act until she said, “Most dealers and kennel operators are professionals who take their responsibilities seriously.”

I would like to suggest Sen. Althoff introduce me to the dealers who are compassionate toward animals, and I will introduce her to the thousands of neglected and abused mill dogs rescued from their care each year.

You can deal cars. You can deal drugs. You cannot humanely “deal” dogs.
