HARVARD – Police in Harvard are investigating a rape that happened in the early morning hours Tuesday.

A 22-year-old female victim was on the 100 block of East Front Street and reported that a male subject came up from behind and sexually assaulted her, Harvard's Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said. That area is a well-lit, city-owned parking lot.

The man made no threats and performed no other acts of violence, Bauman said.

Bauman didn't have an exact time of the alleged incident, but said it happened sometime between midnight and when police were contacted by the Swedish American Hospital in Belvidere for a report of the sexual assault.

The woman was unable to give a description of her assailant.

Anyone with information about the sexual assault is encouraged to call the Harvard Police Department at 815-943-4431.
