To the Editor:
On this page, I’ve been accused of being a deadbeat, a racist and one who crosses state lines to buy gasoline.
I’ll clear the record by admitting that I’ve had several tax liens filed against me, the most recent was in 1993, all of which are paid.
Let’s compare that with Jack Franks’ record. For eight terms, he’s voted for Mike Madigan as speaker of the House. Under Madigan, Illinois has lost jobs, citizens and wealth. Its credit rating is barely above junk. In 2005, Franks deepened Illinois’ pension mess with his vote for the $2.3 billion “pension holiday.” It passed by two votes, one was his.
My shortcomings harm no one but myself. The voters can decide whether they make me unfit for office. But Franks has put every person in this district on the hook for much more than I owed on those tax liens. He needs to answer for that.
