ALGONQUIN – An Algonquin man was recently arrested after two grams of heroin were recovered from the vehicle he was driving, McHenry County sheriff's police said.
Brandon P. Trina, 20, on Friday was driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima in Algonquin when the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force received a tip that a Nissan would be driving through the area with heroin, an office statement said.
After a traffic stop on the Nissan in the area of Stonegate Road and Robinwood Drive in Algonquin, a Crystal Lake K-9 police officer arrived on the scene and indicated the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle.
Trina was charged with unlawful delivery of heroin, unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes and unlawful possession of paraphernalia.
The sheriff's office estimated the street value of the heroin to be about $400.
"The HEAT task force members are credited with assisting in this arrest," Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said. "Information sharing and community involvement is the key to helping us catch and stop the flow of heroin into McHenry County."
Bond was set at $60,000 and Trina is expected in court Thursday.
