So you’ve made the decision to get your veins checked. Now it’s time for the consultation.

What can you expect?

At Illinois Vein Specialists, the initial consultation includes a careful review of medical or clinical history, a physical examination of veins using a Doppler Duplex Ultrasound, and a discussion to answer any questions regarding treatment and/or follow ups, including insurance coverage and medical letters of necessity.

“These steps will allow our certified staff to better assess your particular needs and inform you of the best option(s) for treating your varicose or spider veins,” said Dr. Stephen Rivard, founder and medical director of Illinois Vein Specialists.

A Doppler Duplex Ultrasound Scan provides a visual window, revealing the damaged, refluxing veins beneath the skins surface. With this diagnostic capability, we can pinpoint the exact cause of varicose veins and customize a treatment plan for each individual patient.

“It is the first step in finding the right treatment for damaged indwelling veins,” Rivard said.

And once the appropriate treatments have been determined, Illinois Vein Specialists review with patients at length the relative details to their specific treatment plan.

Concerned about the cost? Insurance will reimburse a high percentage of the treatment cost if there is a documented diagnosis of venous insufficiency, Rivard said.

If it is determined thru the Doppler Duplex Ultrasound Scan that the patient has a positive result of venous insufficiency, Illinois Vein Specialists will forward a letter of medical necessity to the insurance carrier for pre-certification prior to any procedures to ensure treatment is approved.

While each insurance company reimburses different amounts for treatments, “we will work with you and your insurance carrier to ensure you receive the most reimbursement possible,” Rivard said.

To save time on the day of your first appointment, Illinois Vein Specialists have made patient forms available on their website to fill out prior to arrival.
