SPRINGFIELD – A Springfield high school student has been detained after he brought a loaded handgun to school.

Superintendent Jennifer Gill tells The State Journal-Register (http://bit.ly/1tDEhNv ) that the 16-year-old Lanphier High School student showed the gun to a few other students Tuesday afternoon. She said the students immediately alerted administrators, security and police.

Police arrested the student and brought him to the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center.
