CARPENTERSVILLE – A fire caused substantial damage to a garage and minor damage to a house Monday afternoon.

The Carpentersville Fire Department responded at 5:55 p.m. to the 2400 block of Tomahawk Court in Carpentersville after a neighbor called in the fire, Battalion Chief Kieran Stout said.

Firefighters found the garage fully engulfed and fire spreading to the house, he said. Crews were able to put out the fire within five minutes.

The garage was a “total loss,” Stout said, adding that “the roof was still on it, but the rest of it was gone.”

Damage to the house was minimal, estimated at less than $2,000 and mostly to the siding.

There were no injuries and the family was not home at the time of the fire, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious, Stout said.

The Carpentersville department was assisted by the West Dundee, East Dundee, Rutland-Dundee and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills departments.
