McHenry high school homecoming parade returns to Friday

McHENRY – A parade, powder puff games and a themed spirit week will lead up to McHenry's homecoming game next week.

The parade will be returned to Friday afternoon after a move to Thursday last year and powder puff will return for another year, according to a news release.

Powder puff games will be Wednesday at McCracken Field. The games returned to the district last year after being eliminated from official homecoming festivities about a decade ago because of misbehavior.

The juniors game will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the senior game will follow about 7 p.m.

The games are open to the public and cost $4.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Knox Park and head up North Green Street to McHenry East High School, 1012 N. Green St., capping an afternoon featuring the traditional panoramic picture and a pep assembly at McCracken Athletic Field.

Students will prepare for the Friday parade Monday through Wednesday, as needed, building floats at the city garage.

The sophomore and varsity football games will be after the parade with the sophomore team kicking off at 5 p.m. and varsity after at 7 p.m.
