JOHNSBURG – Flames engulfed a vacant Johnsburg home late Tuesday, resulting in heavy smoke and fire damage, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 11 p.m. to 1613 River Terrace Drive in Johnsburg for a reported structure fire, the release states.
McHenry firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy flames swallowing the building, which was found to be vacant.
The fire was under control in 45 minutes, and the response included 13 pieces of apparatus from McHenry Township Fire Protection District, along with about 40 personnel. There were no civilian or fire department injuries, the release states.
Assistance came from the Wauconda, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake and Lake Villa fire protections districts; the Fox Lake Village and Richmond fire departments; as well as the Johnsburg Police Department.
Firefighters from Crystal Lake, Cary, Round Lake, Antioch and Huntley responded as change of quarters companies.
The news release states the house, which sustained an estimated $55,000 in damage, has been vacant for years.
The fire remains under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, however, preliminary reports indicate the cause was accidental and undetermined.
