One person had to be extricated after a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on N. River Road north of Elmkirk Lane in unincorporated McHenry County.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was dispatched to the scene at 1:54 a.m. The crash involved a Ford Ranger pickup truck and a Dodge Neon. According to a district news release, there was extensive damage to both vehicles.
Three people were inside the Neon. The driver and a back-seat rider were out of the vehicle when emergency crews arrived and sent to Centegra Hospital – McHenry with non-life threatening injuries.
A second passenger was unconscious and entangled in the front passenger seat. He was removed with extrication equipment in 27 minutes. He was flown to Centegra Hospital – McHenry via helicopter before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.
The only passenger in the Ford Ranger was the driver, who was treated and released at the scene.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was assisted by the Fox Lake Fire Protection District, and the Nunda and Wauconda Fire Protection Districts.
