Crystal Lake Park District's Racket Club offers pickleball

CRYSTAL LAKE – Pickleball has joined the offerings at the Racket Club.

The Crystal Lake Park District facility offers the sport on an RSVP basis 2 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 7:30 to 9 a.m. Fridays and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Pickleball is similar to badminton and tennis. It involves playing on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton court with a hard paddle and perforated, plastic ball like a whiffleball.

It takes very little instruction with most people able to play a regular game on their first day. Play is generally at an intermediate level, but newcomers are welcome to give it a try.

Players should wear tennis shoes. Equipment is provided for those who need it.

To reserve a spot, call 847-658-5688.

The Racket Club is at 9101 S. Route 31, one mile south of Rakow Road, in Algonquin.
