Driver hospitalized after truck catches fire after crash near Huntley

A man was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries Tuesday after the pickup he was driving crashed into a tree and went up in flames, the Huntley fire chief said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded to a call about 8:30 a.m. for a crash near Big Timber Road and Route 47 in unincorporated Kane County in the area near Huntley, Hampshire and Rutland Township, Chief Ken Caudle said.

The pickup, which was driving on Big Timber Road, was fully involved with flames.

Firefighters were on the scene extinguishing the blaze for about 20 minutes, Caudle said.

He added the driver had exited the vehicle with the help of a bystander and was later transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Caudle said the pickup truck was a total loss.
