McHENRY – A Sunday afternoon fire damaged a local auto repair and U-Haul rental business and forced the closing of Route 120.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to a fire about 5:30 p.m. at McHenry County Four-Wheel Drive Center, 2902 W. Route 120. Firefighters had to call mutual aid from neighboring departments to put out the fire at the business just east of the Fox River, Battalion Chief David Harwood said.
Damage to the business is estimated at $100,000, Harwood said. The cause remained undetermined as of late Sunday evening.
The mutual aid request was canceled shortly before 6:30 p.m., but Route 120 was not reopened to traffic until after 8 p.m. One McHenry firefighter was taken to the hospital after getting debris in her eye and was later released.
Departments from Richmond, Fox Lake, Wonder Lake and Spring Grove responded to the fire.
Departments from Cary, Woodstock and Lake Villa provided station coverage.
