TORONTO — A 23-year-old woman from northern Illinois has been arrested in Canada on suspicion of plotting with another person to carry out a mass killing at a shopping mall in Halifax.
A senior Canadian police official told The Associated Press the pair were planning to commit suicide after the attack, which was to have taken place Saturday.
He spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
He says they appeared to be obsessed with death and had photos of mass killings.
He says a 19-year-old male suspect fatally shot himself after police surrounded his home.
The police official says the woman, from Geneva, Illinois, was arrested at Halifax airport.
He says she confessed to the plot and had prepared a number of pronouncements to be tweeted after her death.
