McHENRY – A 56-year-old man was flown to a nearby hospital after he accidentally shot himself at a McHenry gun range, a fire official said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded at 4:32 p.m. to Alpha Range, 5002 Elm St. in McHenry, Battalion Chief David Harwood said.

The man sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right leg and was in stable condition when Flight for Life flew him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for surgery, Harwood said. No one else was hurt.
