Video: Palm Sunday Tornado: Barbara Oehmke

Siblings Gretchen Flynn, then 6 1/2, and John Oehmke, then 9, and their mother, Barbara Oehmke, then 33, were in their Rambler station wagon in the parking lot at the Crystal Lake Plaza when the Palm Sunday tornado hit it on April 11, 1965.

Barbara's husband, Keith Oehmke, was 37 working on Palm Sunday and saw the tornado hit Crystal Lake on April 11, 1965, from ComEd on Route 31 in Crystal Lake. He recounts his memories of the storm and his work restoring power in Crystal Lake and Island Lake in the days after the tornado hit.
