McHenry man cited after driving on train tracks in Harvard

HARVARD – A 57-year-old McHenry man was arrested early Wednesday after police said his car got stuck on the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Harvard.

About 5:45 a.m., Timothy Volden was driving a 2005 Ford Freestyle west on Brink Street near Kennedy Drive when he apparently drove off the road and onto the railroad tracks, Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said.

A tow truck was able to remove the vehicle from the tracks, Bauman said. The incident happened on the tracks about a mile southeast of the Harvard Metra station. Metra reported delays on its Northwest line for a few hours Wednesday morning because of the vehicle on the tracks.

Bauman said police charged Volden with failure to reduce speed, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and driving while license suspended.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved, and said no one was injured.

Bauman said Volden posted $150 bail and was released from Harvard's jail. He is next due in court at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
