Car destroyed in Marengo fire, official says

MARENGO – A vehicle the owner planned on using for parts was a loss after a fire Tuesday afternoon, a fire official said.

The Marengo Fire Protection District responded at 5:21 p.m. Tuesday to Anthony Road in Marengo, where it found the fire had nearly burnt itself out, Capt. John Kimmel said.

The car, which hadn't been used in a while, was totaled, Kimmel said.

The cause of the fire is unknown but not thought to be suspicious, Kimmel said, adding the fire started when the owner tried to start the car. The fire is not under investigation.

No one was hurt, and the fire did not spread beyond the vehicle, he said.
