The widow of disgraced Fox Lake police Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz pleaded not guilty Wednesday to additional misuse of charitable funds and conspiracy charges that were brought against her in early March, officials said.
Melodie Gliniewicz, 51, was originally indicted in late January on four counts of felony disbursing charitable funds without authority and for personal benefit, and two counts of felony money laundering in connection with the Fox Lake Police Explorer Post 300 accounts. She pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Prosecutors have alleged the couple used more than $10,000 of Explorer funds to pay for items such as food, gym memberships and a vacation. Officials have said Joseph Gliniewicz staged his Sept. 1 suicide to look like a homicide as he feared the new village administrator would uncover years of theft. Gliniewicz's attorneys have said she was a victim of her husband's actions.
Prosecutors in March charged Gliniewicz with an additional misuse of charitable funds for personal or business use count, as well as three counts of conspiracy. She appeared in Lake County court Wednesday to formally deny those charges, said state's attorney's office spokeswoman Cynthia Vargas.
Online court records also show a motion to dismiss was filed Tuesday. Gliniewicz's attorney, Donald Morrison, could not immediately be reached for comment.
A May 17 case management conference is scheduled for the case.
