Fire causes $100,000 in damage to McHenry County home, official says

House between Holiday Hills, Island Lake is uninhabitable

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded early Thursday morning to a fire that left a house uninhabitable.

Crews were dispatched about 4:40 a.m. to a home in the 2500 block of South Harriet Lane in unincorporated McHenry County, McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Dave Harwood said. He said the home was in between Holiday Hills and Island Lake.

The house was on fire when crews arrived, and it took about a half hour to extinguish it, Harwood said.

Two adults and a child were sleeping in the house when the fire began and were woken up by a smoke detector, he said. They were able to exit before the fire department's arrival.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the structure and its contents, Harwood said. No one was injured in the fire, he said.

Harwood said he did not know where the fire started, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
