Port Barrington man, 67, dead after Friday boat crash on Fox River

Man was the only occupant of boat, police said

TROUT VALLEY — A 67-year-old Port Barrington man died after a boat crash on the Fox River on Friday afternoon, police said.

McHenry County Sheriff's Marine Deputies responded at 3:01 p.m. Friday to a single boat crash in the 200 block of River Road in Trout Valley.

The front of the boat had crashed into a concrete pier and concrete post, and the man was thrown into the water. He was the boat's only occupant, police said.

Two nearby citizens rescued him from the water and were giving him CPR when deputies and fire personnel arrived. Cary Fire Protection District Lt. Michael Douglass said the man was unconscious at the scene.

First responders called for a Flight For Life helicopter, but the request was canceled after paramedics decided to transport him to the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital instead.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital. There were no signs of foul play, and it does not appear THAT drugs or alcohol were a factor, investigators said.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Lake County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.
