Coroner IDs Port Barrington man killed after Fox River boat crash

TROUT VALLEY – The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in a boat crash on the Fox River on Friday as 67-year-old Joseph Serritella.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said the autopsy was conducted Friday on the Port Barrington man. A determination of the cause of death is pending, he said.

“The individual suffered multiple traumatic injuries, but we still have to wait on toxicology as well,” Portillo said Tuesday.

He said it takes about 10 to 12 working days to get toxicology reports back.

McHenry County Sheriff’s marine deputies responded at 3:01 p.m. Friday to a single boat crash in the 200 block of River Road in Trout Valley.

The front of the boat had crashed into a concrete pier and concrete post, and the man was thrown into the water. Serritella was the boat’s only occupant, police said.

Serritella was pronounced dead at the hospital. There were no signs of foul play, and it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor, investigators said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
