Jessie A. Brown, 23, pleaded guilty before McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather to an amended charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony. Prather sentenced Brown to three years in prison and two years of mandatory supervised release.
In addition to the conviction, Prather found the crime was committed because of the use, abuse or addiction to alcohol and/or controlled substances. Brown also will receive credit for the time he has served at McHenry County Jail.
Brown was arrested in April and charged with drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony, in connection with a suspected morphine overdose death in Wonder Lake.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dave Johnston said Brown sold Ashley M. Mancuso, 20, of Wonder Lake five 30 milligram morphine pills on March 24 for $30.
McHenry County Sheriff’s police were dispatched March 25 to the 7800 block of Balsam Drive, Wonder Lake, and said they found evidence indicating that the 20-year-old might have ingested morphine before she died.
Johnston previously said Brown told police he sold drugs to Mancuso before the March incident and this was not a one-time occurrence. Brown was acquainted with Mancuso and they previously were in a relationship, Johnston said.
