Johnsburg fire causes $40,000 in damages to boat, residence

JOHNSBURG – Fire officials continue to investigate what started a fire that caused $40,000 in damages to a boat and a Johnsburg residence Thursday night.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was dispatched at 9:11 p.m. to a report of a boat on fire in a driveway next to a home at Rolling and Harrison lanes, according to a department news release.

A 25-foot Baja cuddy boat was fully engulfed, and the fire spread to a two-story residence that was nearby. The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes, fire officials said.

Damage to the boat is estimated at $35,000, and fire officials said it was a “total loss.” The structure sustained $5,000 in damages and still is habitable.

No one was injured in the fire, and the Johnsburg Police Department will continue investigating the cause.
