More details released on fatal Algonquin Western Bypass crash

ALGONQUIN – Algonquin police said three motorcycles were headed north Saturday on Route 31 when they struck a raised median and went into the southbound lanes.

The incident occurred before 6 p.m. on Route 31 north of Route 62.

Alex J. Misurelli, 35, of Crystal Lake was traveling north on a motorcycle when he was fatally struck by a Honda Accord, Algonquin police said. McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski said a 911 call was made at 5:41 p.m., and Misurelli was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:02 p.m.

A 40-year-old man from Lake in the Hills and a 34-year-old man from Woodstock also were ejected from their motorcycles upon hitting the median, Algonquin police said. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital. The Lake in the Hills driver was later flown to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, police said.

Police said the two drivers' conditions and injuries were not available Monday.

The crash still is under investigation by the Algonquin Police Department and the Kane County Accident Investigation Unit. No citations have been issued thus far.
