RINGWOOD – The McHenry County Conservation District is inviting residents to take a candlelight hike along the marsh and to Nippersink Creek while experiencing a fall evening in Glacial Park, which otherwise is closed to visitors after sunset.
Glacial Park by Candlelight will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Glacial Park Conservation Area, on Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
Visitors can learn about local nocturnal wildlife and listen for its presence. After the hike, they are invited to gather by the campfire, make a gourmet version of s’mores and share a toast with an adult beverage.
Participants who wish to share in the latter must be 21 and bring a valid ID. MCCD officials said the event is a great date night or girls’ night out. The hike is about 2 miles on mostly flat terrain. Participants will meet in the lobby of the Lost Valley Visitor Center.
Registration and fee are required by Oct. 31. The cost is $25 for McHenry County residents and $30 for nonresidents. The events is only for adults and teens age 14 and older.
Register online at www.MCCDistrict.org, by mail and walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, and by drop-off only at the Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
